Food in the OC x GIMBIC = extra lbs.

What have I been up to? Eating.

I just want to give you a quick recap of what foodtography I had saved up on my cell phone. Picture quality is crappy. My deepest apologies.

Niberino's Meatball Sandwich in Anaheim is worthy of its own post, and it might receive one eventually, but for now I needed to expose you to this gem.

Looks like your typical liquor store on Ball and Sunkist on the border of Orange and Anaheim. Walk in, make a right to the back and order a Meatball Sub. Thank me later.

Super Teriyaki Bowl on State College and Ball. One block down from Nib's stands an odd looking building that serves up delicious chicken bowls. Good textures with the crunchy cabbage on top. Top notch service.

Who's that? Leonardo. Gumball eyeballs always take it to the next level for me.

Two Brother Pizza on Warner and Goldenwest in Huntington Beach. I rarely order cheese pizza, but they make theirs so good. It is almost like their tables and plates match their slice. You gotta coordinate... (Boomerang reference)

That looks like a Club Sandwich with friend zucchinis on the side. Has to be Hot Off the Grill in HB on Bolsa Chica and Heil. It's hard to find good zuchinni strips anywhere, but Hot Off the Grill's will make you do backflips. Also have to try their pastrami sando.

Don't forget... it's snowboarding season. Here's a shot from last year of Mount Baldy.

Have a great winter...

Warehouse Pizza in La Verne

Call me a Pizza Princess. I like my pizza a particular way. Crust has to be light, salty and crisp..... complimenting the actually slice.

Sauce needs to tangy, sweet, with a little bit of zip. Even the color of the sauce is important to me. I like that Angels red. Makes it taste better.

I need my pepperonis to be done just right. Slightly curled and blackened around the edges. The pepperonis should almost take on a bowl shape with a little pool of grease in the middle (yuck!/ yum!)

This is Warehouse Pizza in La Verne, CA. Some of the best pizza I have come across in a long time.

The slices were almost juicy, and that's a good thing.

If you're ever out in the area hit up this local pizza spot. It's in the San Bernadino/ Raging Waters/ 57/ 10/ 210 area.

We were out snowboarding at Mount Baldy for the day and needed a quick fix.

Great recommendation!!

Hot Off the Grill...

Hot Off the Grill in Huntington Beach. Bolsa Chica and Heil is the one I go to, but they have four other locations.

Look at that Pastrami Sandwich. Do I really need to say much?

These are fried zucchini strips. Damn... Fresh, fried, and seems like a half pound of grub. Excellent.

Taquitos look authentic, and when I say authentic I mean good.

They also serve up some incredible shakes, so save room for a little dessert... if you dare.

Flame Broiler Chicken Bowls..

I love slices of Pepperoni Pizza.

I love Buffalo Wings.

I love Sushi.

And I definitely love Chicken Bowls.

When I was in college and drinking cases of Keystone Light and shots of Peppermint Schnapps, the only thing that could cure my mean hangovers was a chicken bowl and a nap the next day.

I like my chicken bowls with green onions and Teriyaki sauce, but the bright red-orange hot sauce has to be right. At Flame Broiler in Cypress they have the perfect recipe. Their hot sauce is a little vinegary and a little sweet. It has the right consistentcy... just a little watery. They give it to you in a big ass bottle so you can add a little dash here and there as you eat it.

I have a certain technique for eating my chicken bowl and everything.

More posts to come on chicken bowls. I also love Yogi's and Mos #2 down here in Orange County.

On a sidenote, I punched in Flame Broiler on Yahoo! looking for some reviews and some idiot wrote this review. This is the type of stuff that pisses me off about the Internet. Lady, check the bag before you go and see if you can find a life inside there.

She writes some bullshit then "......The point is, I specifically asked for 4 teriyaki sauces because I was sharing a meal with my friend and he looked me straight in the eye and said okay but then when I looked in the bag after I got home, he only gave me two. I was out my sauce and as you know, you really can't enjoy these teriyaki bowls without the sauce. I was very disappointed because this happened after I had complimented him on the remodel. Jerk. This is the last place I pay for food at this location because it might look prettier but the customer service didn't get any better........."

You're a fucking idiot. The place is incredible. Flame Broiler rules!

BJs BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich...

Went to BJ's Restaurant Brewhouse the other night and saw a new sandwich being offered...BJ's BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich. Let me say...incredible. I order pulled pork sandwiches a lot of different places to see what they have to offer, this was like Drake "Best I Ever Had"..

The sandwich has an ordinary white bun topped with a delicious serving of sweet, savory pulled pork and crunchy onion straws. It also comes with a side of cole slaw and your choice of fries or onion straws. A side of extra BBQ sauce accompanies the dish in a square ramekin...

BOMB.

Surf City x Pizza x Detroit Bar x Alejandro's x Collossal KNXN =...

Saturday Night, December 5th, 2009. Recap. First up, dinner time. Time for a slice at Surf City Pizza. I wrote a review of it here. They know me here by name. We chat for a few minutes while the slices are in the oven. Friendly service, but do not order delivery. It could take up to two hours.

The slices are perfect, but the interior of Surf City Pizza is what takes it to the next level. Surfboards, pictures of waves, vintage pictures of Huntington Beach... basically anything to do with Surfing or Surf City, HB.

Highly recommended for a slice or a pie to pick up. I love the crust. It's slightly salty and crispy, which I like. All I really get there is the pizza, so I cannot really comment on much else on their menu. Their buffalo wings are okay.

Next up, Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. Colossal KNXN were spinning and boy oh boy, did they kill it! They played all the hits; old school, new school, house, hip hop, motown, everything. I was very pleased and impressed with the DJs and the crowd. Friendly , good looking people out for a good time.

I was drinking Amstel Lights and finishing up my boy's shots of Patron. Detroit is always a cool if you bring a positive attitude and know how to have a good time.

Last stop, Alejandro's right in the same parking lot as Detroit. As you can see, I judge a Mexican spot by their carne asada burrito. Alejandro's did not disappoint. Their carne asada is perfection in a tortilla. While their salsa is not what I would call top notch, their burrito was exactly what I desired at 1AM. It was hard to get a picture of my food, but trust me, it was delicious. The tacos also looked scrumptious.

Made it home safe and sound. Good times, good food, good music...

Giant Slices of Pizza!!

Not only do I love pizza, but I especially love giant slices of pizza. The first place I think of when I talk about giant slices is a little spot in Huntington Beach called Pizza D'Oro down on Newland and Indianapolis. I grew up in the area and this was my first exposure to a slice that was so big it would fall over the edges of most plates.

Cooking giant slices is tricky because you are essentially reheating/ recooking them. I love when they cook those pepperonis up nice and hot.

Pizza D'Oro is the standard to which I hold all other giant slices to. The operation has those red and white checkered tablecloths and give really good service. It is one of the best and biggest slice of pepperoni pizza around. The slice combo also comes with a nice salad with mozzerella cheese and a few pepperonis on it as well.

The other location I have discovered is called Giant Manhattan Pizza in the city of Anaheim on Brookhurst and Katella. One day I had an hour lunch after a training in the area and found this gem. One of the special things Giant Manhattan brings to the table is they cut up the slice for you. It makes it much easier to eat. They also serve up the slices on a food tray to show you the true power of their pie. I included a shot of a full pie about to get sauced and cheesed so you could behold the power of their pizza.

Giant Manhattan is also excellent pizza, but it will take some time to get their slice, so don't expect your food to come out quick. Good food takes time. Your patience will pay off.

Do you have any favorite places to get a slice at?

Harry's Grill

Harry's Grillis your typical burger combo joint where you can get a great burger anyway you like and some nice fries with seasoning and maybe a cold side of ranch if you like it that way. There is probably a diner/ eating establishment/ place like this near you. Maybe Ted's or Jim's or Troy's. Harry's Grill is basically like all of those places with a few exceptions... 1. it's right on PCH in Sunset Beach, 2. it is two stories tall, and 3. the funniest pelican in the world eats lunch there.

I know. A pelican. I have heard of dogs with personality or cats who are emotional, but this was the funniest fucking bird I had ever seen in my life. We ate back there about two weeks ago and this pelican looked first of all, drunk off his ass. Secondly, he was hopping around on the outside patio out there like he was Jim Carrey or something back in his prime. So much of comedy is non-verbal. This bird just looked like a cool guy to kick it with. I would love to go grab some drinks with this pelican sometime.

So anyway, the food is incredible. I usually wind up ordering the burger combo or the chicken fingers. The fries are great. The soda is cold. You can see the ocean from the second floor patio. The service is top notch, friendly and professional. It is a great burger, but I will never forget that bird.

When I have Fast Food...

Mc Donald's - Best fries. Best Coke. I think they have a special mixture of Coke made just for Mc Donald's that compliments their salty menu with the perfect Coke recipe. Their straws are the best. Biggest straws in the fast food industry.

I just get some hamburgers at Mickey D's, but it's hard not to say those fries aren't incredible.

Jack in the Box - Best Chicken Strips. Best Ranch. Best Value Menu. Jack just might be considered my favorite fast food place because I like so many things there. Jumbo Jack. 99 cent Chicken Sandwich (actually 1.29). Eggroll. Those are my main recommendations.

Burger King - Whopper is really something special. I used to really think about how in the world could they only be charging 99 cents for that. I used to have a real tough time with that because it has so many toppings and it's a big burger.

BK's fries have too much batter on them for me. Their Chicken Sandwiches are also simple and satisfying.

I don't know what this french kid is saying, but whatever it is, it's got to be funny...
